In brief
- CD Projekt Red announced Update 2.5 on October 20, 2026: it goes live October 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, free for all owners, timed to the Netflix release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2.
- Officially confirmed so far: cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle, plus new items and features inspired by the anime.
- A creator accidentally published pre-briefed coverage early (the video was pulled), revealing the likely full feature list — two new side quests, an Edgerunners radio station, cyberware “Glamdocs,” console mod support via mod.io, an FOV slider on consoles, and more.
- CD Projekt Red has not confirmed the leaked details; full patch notes are expected before the update launches.
- This is the first content update for the game in over a year, as the studio focuses most of its staff on The Witcher IV.
The announcement
Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a surprise content update. On October 20, 2026, CD Projekt Red revealed that Update 2.5 will release on October 22 — this week — across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version will arrive later, though no date has been set.
The timing is no accident. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 — a standalone sequel to the acclaimed 2022 anime — released on Netflix on October 20, and Update 2.5 is built around it. The studio says the patch brings “new items and features” inspired by the show’s second season.
To walk players through what’s coming, CD Projekt Red is holding a REDstreams showcase on October 21 at 8 AM PT / 11 AM ET / 4 PM BST / 5 PM CEST, streamed on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam. Pawel Sasko, associate game director on the Cyberpunk sequel, posted that he is hyped to show what the team has been working on — which suggests the update is more substantial than a routine patch.
Of the official announcements, only two features have been named so far:
- Cyberware customization — some way to change the look of your installed chrome.
- A new dual-wielding playstyle — confirmed via official artwork showing protagonist V wielding two guns at once, a pose the base game doesn’t support.
Everything else about the update’s contents comes from a leak.
What leaked early (and why it leaked)
CD Projekt Red briefed select content creators ahead of the REDstreams reveal. One of them, YouTuber Was Nemo, accidentally published the coverage early on October 20. The video was set back to private, but not before Push Square watched it and wrote up the details. Kotaku independently confirmed the leak’s highlights. CD Projekt Red has not disputed any of it.
Because the studio hasn’t confirmed these details itself, treat the following as high-confidence leak, not official patch notes — until REDstreams or the patch notes confirm them.
Two new side quests
- “Clampdown” — a new side quest set before the events of Edgerunners Season 2, which means it functions as prequel material for the anime’s new story.
- “Welcome to Paradise” — a new quest that takes V on a mysterious tour of Night City.
If you finished the base game and Phantom Liberty and haven’t touched Night City since, these two quests are the biggest reason to return. One expands the new anime’s story; the other is pure city exploration.
Dual-wielding becomes real
The leaked coverage says Update 2.5 adds a new perk to the Cool skill tree called “Double Trouble”, which lets V dual wield power pistols or revolvers. Several secondary perks branch out from it — so this isn’t just a cosmetic animation, it’s a build archetype. A Cool-tree gunslinger who sprays two guns at once will play meaningfully differently from the existing single-pistol builds.
The leaked promo art backs this up: V dual-wielding pistols back-to-back with Weak Kingsley, a character from Edgerunners Season 2.
Cyberware gets a fashion layer
The leak describes five new “Glamdocs” — new characters added to Night City who specialize in customizing the look of your arm and hand cyberware. These are reportedly full characters with fresh voice lines and animations, not just new menus. Combined with the officially confirmed “cyberware customization,” this suggests the update adds a cosmetic layer on top of the stat-based chrome system.
An Edgerunners radio station
A new in-game radio station will play tracks from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime — both Season 1 and Season 2. Given how much of Edgerunners’ cultural footprint came from its music, this is a smart tie-in, and it gives the update flavor even for players who skip the new quests.
Style options: clothing, hair, photo mode
- Five new clothing sets, sold through different districts — so you’ll need to shop around Night City to complete the collection.
- New NPC hairstyles that V can use in character customization. Some are reportedly limited by body type choice.
- Photo mode additions, including frames from the Cyberpunk trading card game, so screenshots can look like trading card art.
Console quality-of-life: mods, FOV slider, stash filters
This is the part of the leak that matters most for long-term play:
- Mod support on consoles via mod.io — the same system used in The Witcher 3’s remaster. One catch: using mods disables Trophies/Achievements on that save file.
- FOV (field of view) slider on consoles — PC players have had this forever; console players haven’t. First-person camera comfort is a real accessibility issue, and this has been requested for years.
- Save file folders organized by playthrough.
- Item filters in V’s stash storage.
- HDR settings fixes on PS5 that previously made no difference.
None of these are glamorous, but the FOV slider and console mod support are the kind of changes that genuinely extend the game’s life on PlayStation and Xbox.

The update’s size has not been announced. Cyberpunk 2077 is a large game, so make sure you have download bandwidth and storage headroom before October 22 if you plan to jump in.
Should you reinstall? A decision by player type
Returning players who never finished the game. If you bounced off the launch version or shelved the game after one playthrough, 2.5 alone isn’t a reason to come back — but the game you would return to isn’t the game you left. Six years of patches plus the Phantom Liberty expansion rebuilt it. The two new quests and the dual-wielding build give a fresh run a reason to exist.
Players who finished everything. Two side quests, a radio station, and cosmetics are a weekend’s worth of content, not a new act. Come back if you loved Night City and want a reason to walk it again — the Glamdocs, new clothing sets, and photo mode additions are aimed squarely at you. Don’t come back expecting a Phantom Liberty-sized expansion; that’s not what this is.
Newcomers. Nothing in the leaked or confirmed list is story-critical for a first playthrough. But there’s never been a better time to start: the game is at its most polished, all content is included, and the update is free. If you’ve been waiting for a sale-or-bust moment, this is the “bust” that becomes a “buy” — the complete package keeps growing without costing you more.
The anime question. You don’t need to have watched Edgerunners Season 2 to play 2.5. But the update is clearly designed as a companion piece — “Clampdown” is set before the season, and the radio station pulls from both seasons’ soundtracks. If you’re on the fence, watch the season first; the update will land better.
What this says about CD Projekt Red’s priorities
Context matters. This is the game’s first content update in over a year. The bulk of CD Projekt Red is now building The Witcher IV (targeted for 2028), and a Cyberpunk sequel is in the works but likely years away. In that light, Update 2.5 reads less like a return to live-service support and more like a goodwill gesture timed to the anime — a free thank-you to the 40-million-plus players who bought the game, and a reminder that Night City still has a pulse.
There’s a business logic to it, too. Edgerunners Season 1 in 2022 demonstrably rehabilitated the game’s image after its disastrous 2020 launch and drove a sustained sales revival. Tying 2.5 to Season 2 repeats a formula that already worked once.
Bottom line: Update 2.5 won’t change what Cyberpunk 2077 is, but it meaningfully changes what it offers — two new quests, a new playstyle, real console quality-of-life features, and a stack of style options, all free. For a six-year-old game, that’s better than most players had any right to expect.
